2024/2025 School Year

Sunflower Preschool follows the Ellensburg School District calendar for the school year. 

Preschool is Monday - Thursday with morning and afternoon classes. The morning class is from 8:00 am - 11:30 am and the afternoon class is 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm.

We believe in our four-day-a-week preschool. The growth in our students attending preschool four consecutive days in a row is phenomenal. Students have time to bond with each other, teachers, and volunteers. We teach in a mixed group setting of 3-5-year-olds. Our older students mentor our younger students. The teachers include me, Katrina Douglas, and Lauren Pratt. Additionally, we have two volunteers Miss Sharon and Miss DeLain.

Our curriculum is Funshine Express and Pre-K Pages. Students enjoy weekly themes which include, science, math, literacy, dramatic play, social/emotional, creative arts, and more! Additionally, the Zoo Phonics curriculum is used to teach letter sounds before letter names. Lastly, nursery rhymes are integrated throughout our curriculum. Nursery rhymes support students in learning rhyming, sequencing, phonemic awareness, and comprehension.

One of our main focuses is the social and emotional growth of our students. Students learn how to communicate, talk with one another, and express feelings. 

​

Sunflower Preschool prepares students for Kindergarten. Our goal is for students to write their names, identify alphabet letters/sounds, count to 20, and more!

Family is very important to us at Sunflower Preschool! Throughout the school year, we have parties and socials for families to participate in. One of our favorite family events is the Jensen Farms pumpkin patch.

Welcome: Free choice activities

Bathroom/Handwashing

Group Learning: Nursery rhyme, alphabet sounds, counting 

Morning Meeting: Linear calendar, singing, and movement

Break-out sessions: 3-5-year-olds / 4-5-year-olds​ (Pre-K activities), fine motor activities, and journals

Free Choice Centers: STEM, Imagination, Dramatic Play, Literacy/Writing/Art, and Sensory Bins

Snack: Students bring their own snacks and water bottle

Recess: Enjoy the great outdoors in the preschool backyard

Exploration stations: Science, creative arts, and social studies

Story Time

Books / Puzzles: Students enjoy a quiet activity before leaving

Adios: See you tomorrow!

Additional Activities: Ellensburg public library, nature walk, family activities
